Up Close was a short-lived interview program that ran for about six months in the time slot after Nightline, during a transitional period in the network's programming schedule (July 2002-January 2003). Most episodes of the program centered on profiles and in-depth interviews in informal settings. Interviews normally conducted by Ted Koppel or Chris Bury include humorists David Letterman, Nia Vardalos, Garry Trudeau, Paul Mooney; humanitarian figures Desmond Tutu and Elie Wiesel; musicians Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, and Steve Earle; as well as many others.
